Imagine coming home from the hospital after giving birth to your son and finding a note from your mother-in-law demanding money for cleaning your house. That is exactly what happened in the story we have got for you guys today.
Reddit user u/Unlikely-Visitor shared that she had some complications during delivery and had to stay in the hospital for a week. Her MIL offered to feed her dogs at home, but she also decided to clean her bedroom carpet and the rest of the house without asking or telling her. Pretty kind of the MIL, you would think at the first instance. However, after doing the good deed, she then left them a note saying that she wanted to be reimbursed for the time she spent cleaning the house and feeding the dog and for the expensive products she had to purchase to accomplish her tasks.
OP and her husband refused to pay, as they did not ask for her help or consent. The MIL and the extended family accused them of being ungrateful and manipulative.
Although OP was confident not paying the bill was the way to go forward, because the matter originated around family, she still shared the story on the subreddit “Am I The A$$hole?” to know if what she and her husband decided was the right thing to do or not.

3. The couple didn’t have much time to look after cleaning, so when OP’s water broke on their bedroom’s carpet, they covered it up with some towels and rushed to the hospital.
4. While the couple was at the hospital, OP’s MIL offered to feed their dogs.
5. While at it, MIL also decided to clean the bedroom carpet. But for all her voluntary effort, she left a note for OP and her son to reimburse her for all the work she did.

7. The couple never asked MIL to do the cleaning, so her demanding money for it was just so out of the blue.

While I was reading the story, I really thought the mother-in-law was so kind for voluntarily feeding the dog and then proceeding to clean up the whole house. But when I read the part about her charging them for all the voluntary time and effort she put in, I instantly declared her the biggest AH in the world. I mean, come on, woman. You just became a grandmother, and look at the things you are doing.
In no way should OP pay anything to that woman.

If you do something for someone out of your heart, you are not supposed to charge them for it. It is as simple as that.
