Feeding dogs scraps from the table has been a common practice for ages, but it can pose dangers that many overlook. Dogs, with their adorable faces and wagging tails, often convince their owners to share human food without realizing the risks involved.
One major risk is bones. While it might seem harmless to give a dog a bone, cooked bones can break into sharp pieces, causing blockages or even puncturing their intestines, leading to costly vet visits.
In a Reddit post, a family faced this situation, adding emotional complexity. A mother, reuniting with her adopted-out son, unknowingly caused trouble by feeding scraps to his guide dog. 2. OP had a son at a very young age and put it up for adoption because she was unable to take on the responsibility at the time.
3. The family who adopted OP’s son kept her in touch by sharing various sort of updates and invites.
4. Unfortunately, the baby got diagnosed with a nerve-related issue which caused him to lose his vision. OP feared it was something she did that resulted in this.
5. Slowly but eventually OP moved on as life progressed for her.
6. At the age of 58, OP is now a married woman with two daughters who know about her son. The two keep trying to foster the connection between OP and her son but she wants to stay away from him, as much as she can.
7. Without telling, one of OP’s daughters connected with her son through Facebook.
8. The son is now a PhD in Physics and is going to get married soon. Although OP is happy to know that her son is doing well, she shares she doesn’t feel a motherly connection with him anymore. That all the information she receives regarding her son is like receiving information about a stranger.
9. On the recent Thanksgiving where OP’s son was also present at her house, she fed his support dog some table scraps not thinking much about it.
10. A few days later OP learned that her son’s dog had developed a pancreas-related infection and that it had to be removed through surgery.
Now that was a mistake. This cannot go un-ignored by OP. According to me here’s how the ideal situation should have gone; after hearing the bad news about her son’s dog, OP rushed the vet clinic where the dog was admitted, she hugged her son apologizing constantly for her mistake. She then proceeded to cover all the costs of surgery to do the least she could in order to help.

11. OP’s daughter was furious and wanted her to to offer to pay for son’s dog’s vet bills.
12. OP shared she contacted her son and did offer to pay but he kindly refused saying he had it covered.
13. His dog was covered by pet insurance which would result in him only having to pay 10% of the total bill.
