Entitled Neighbors Expect Woman To Cover Vet Bills After Their Dog Eats Her Leftover Chocolate

When it comes to food, animals can’t resist it, no matter what they are eating. They’ll pretty much enjoy eating everything that includes dairy and proteins. Cats, dogs, birds, and all other domestic animals can be absolute imposters when it comes to food. It’s their favorite hobby to rip open their food bags, steal food from the neighbors, eat their sibling pet’s food too, and last but not the least intrude every lunch/dinner/breakfast and even snack time! However different animals have different food allergies and intolerances, and taking those foods can pose serious problems to the health of our fluffs. It’s important for us to identify such food allergies and intolerances to ensure the optimum health of our pets. It’s often difficult to keep a constant eye on what your pet animal is eating but being a responsible owner it’s your responsibility to ensure the safety of your pet.

Today’s AITA post is about pet food toxicity too. OP had arranged a family lunch on a bright beautiful day, she made delicious food and desserts. Considering the pleasant weather she decided to serve the food outside, after lunch she decides to take her family on a walk to a nearby pond on her property. This is when the neighbor’s dog broke into her property and ate the leftover food that was left on the table outside but was covered. What exactly happened and how did the neighbors react when OP told them what their dog did, has been well narrated in the post. Let’s see where the story took the turn and what made the OP question herself for being the a-hole

1. Doesn’t even make any sense for her to be TA.

If somebody gets a pet, he or she is all in all responsible for keeping it under a close watch especially when being out. If the pet has food allergies it should not be let out without supervision. Moreover, pets should be trained not to break into someone’s private property, and if it still gets troublesome following the instructions, they should be kept on a leash and taken out under a watch. This would ensure the animal’s safety as well as the people around it. Moreover, if you come across an animal that probably has swallowed a food item that could be toxic to it, being a responsible human being it’s better to inform the owner asap just like OP did.

The point here is pretty clear how OP isn’t TA at all for not paying for the heavy vet bills as it was completely her neighbor’s fault that they let the dog out without any supervision, knowing that it has food toxicity. The neighbors can also be held responsible for being careless about the dog’s health and life. OP being kind and courteous enough still offered to pay the quarter but the neighbors insisting to pay the full is quite absurd.
