Sisters Asks If She Was Wrong For Not Getting Her Sibling The Promised Baby Shower Gift

A major family drama ensued due to a promised gift being expensive.

Relationships are very sensitive. Assume if you are a family of 5 people, you are then 5 very thin threads tied together into a thin knot. Make one error, and that knot will break and relationships crumble. So, you have to be very careful when it comes to maintaining relationships because when drama ensues, even siblings, parents, relatives, and best friends erupt into fights. And just because the relationship is resting on such thin threads knotted together, even the slightest of problems become too big and rationale basically goes right down the drain.

In today’s story, proper family drama ensued as OP took matters to the sacred Reddit community known as the AITA to share a problem that weakened her ties with her sister. OP was basically invited to her sister’s bridal shower. The soon-to-be mother had asked for a baby crib among all the other things on her wishlist. So OP decided to bring a used one that she already had at home and gifted it to her sister. But that wasn’t exactly what the sister was hoping had chosen a very specific baby crib that she wanted, and so she rejected the one OP had brought so nicely. OP then decided to search for the one her sister so anxiously wanted and turns out it cost a whopping $8,000 for that baby crib.

Well, as you guys may have guessed, OP refused to help get that one for the mother-to-be, and that’s when a proper family drama kicked off.

Scroll down below to read how it all went down.

1. A matter of commitment, let’s see how it goes.

2. Bridal showers are always super exciting, you get so many gifts and it is a happy event altogether.

This one though, not so much.

6. Parents tried convincing OP to get the soon-to-be mother a new crib, the one she so dearly wanted.

7. $9000 for a baby crib? You can get like 50 cribs in that amount. This is absurd.

No one should pay such a sum for something that is ultimately going to rot in storage. I mean seriously, you can spend that money on so many better things instead of getting something that will be in use for like 4 years max? I know there’s a lot of the story still left to go through but I actually cannot get over the fact there is someone out there selling baby cribs for $9000 and people are buying them. Ridiculous.

The rant is over. Now let’s how this instant rejection is dealt with. Scroll down to continue.

8. I don’t think anyone has ever heard of such a fancy baby crib. It’s a bed to sleep on, basically that’s what it is.

9. No you’re not out of touch. Your sister is just being too demanding.

10. Being a millionaire doesn’t mean you have to have a steak every day. Take care of that money and use it sensibly.

11. Why even is this woman demanding such expensive gifts? Should’ve worked for them then.

The siblings were very right to reject these demands. An $8000 crib, and a $2000 stroller? Is she even in her mind? For how long will she be putting her child in these expensive things? Barely a few years. And imagine if the kid just refuses to like the $11,000 gifts right from the beginning. That would result in complete wastage of money. OP did the right thing by refusing to pool in that enormous sum. I declare her NTA.

Here’s what the community members decided:

12. Yeah, I don’t understand if parents were already living on a budget, why did they agree to get an $8000 crib?

13. It’s a kid’s bed that shouldn’t cost more than $20.

14. It’s not like the baby would be eating it too.

15. Maybe get one for the sister so she can use it to cool her brain down and think rationally for once.

16. This Redditor said the crib would be useless after 2 years as the baby will outgrow and won’t fit in.

17. There are so many better, sensible, and cheaper options out there.

18. Nobody accepted the idea of having such an expensive crib at your house.

19. OP is now safe from the label of “really, really, really stupid”.
