As kids, we all have associated some things with being privileged. Like that one kid in the class who had a fancy pencil box or a wristwatch with a calculator in it was considered rich. But with time as we grew up, we realized these were mere luxuries of life that didn’t really make a big difference in our life but only looked fancy for the time.
Now, that we have matured and have a much better understanding of life, we look back in time and laugh. We were so silly back then but maybe that’s the whole point of being a kid. This twitter thread from the user connectpoliticditto discusses what people associated with being rich when they were kids. Some of the tweets would make you laugh and others will bring a few tears in your eyes. As not all the things we wished for as a child were fancy, some were the basic necessities of life that our parents couldn’t afford. Scroll down to read.
Back in the days having water/ice dispenser in the fridge sure was a luxury. Plus, it made you look privileged.

An attic that you can convert into your secret room. Where you can sit all by yourself and have a little “me time”. Priceless.

It made a big difference, trust me.

Now, that’s a real rich people thing.

This one’s hilarious.

Started from the bottom, now we here! We’re happy you got what you always wished for.

That’s the ultimate form of luxury.

Kids with braces on their teeth always looked like those nerdy kids with ridiculously rich families.

Privileged and spoiled feels.

That’s the key… always gotta be thankful for what you’ve got.

We might not have all that we want, but we sure do have what we need. We just have to be aware of these things and be thankful. We have food on our plates even if it’s not what we like or wanted to eat but it’s enough for us to fill our bellies. We have a place to hide against the roughness of the weather, a shelter for us to sleep in at night. We have clean water to drink. It’s okay if we don’t have all the fancies… We have the basics at least.
We should consider ourselves blessed. One can still live a happy life even without big pockets. All we have to do is be grateful. There are people out there who wish they had what we have. So what if we don’t have that luxury car? So what if we don’t have that new phone? Have we ever thought about how we have our health? How we can walk freely without support? How we are free to do whatever we want? We’re just always busy looking at people who have it better than us that we forget about all those who have it worse. I mean, it’s not a competition or anything, but it’s important to always look at those who have less than you so you know just how privileged and blessed you really are.
That is actually a good way of avoiding wastage of food.
