They negotiated a pay increase as they transitioned into the role of unofficial supervisor, ensuring that they could support themselves and enjoy a modest lifestyle. Life in Chicago, with its high cost of living, made it challenging to make ends meet, but OP managed to balance their expenses while indulging in simple pleasures.

The restaurant underwent a significant change when a new general manager, Harvey, took charge.
