After the OP quit his job on the drilling rig because the driller wouldn’t let them have time off for Christmas, things didn’t go well for the remaining crew. The driller thought the person was just upset and would come back, so they didn’t hire anyone to replace them. As a result, the crew had to work extra hard because they were short-staffed. Even after a month, the driller didn’t hire anyone new, and the crew struggled with the demanding 24-hour schedule.
On the other hand, the person who quit found a new job and started working there in January. He was happy in his new job, and life was going well. When he met an old crew member at a friend’s birthday party, the crew member asked when he was planning to go back to work. OP made it clear that they had quit for real, and the driller needed to hire someone new. It turned out the driller hadn’t realized the consequences of his actions, and the drilling rig continued to face challenges without a full team.

1. OP used to work on a relief crew on a drilling rig and the right ran 24 hours a day with three shifts moreover, OP said crews worked 6 days and then 2 days off and OP’s crew would replace the working crew so they could take the day off.
2. OP said it was easy to find someone to take a shift if you wanted an extra day off but the condition was they had to have the same abilities
3. OP’s wife asked if he could have a chance to getting a holiday for Christmas OP checked the calendar and his days off fell on December 24 and 25 so he decided to find a guy who would cover it up for him and took this to his driller and he agreed that they could work for him
4. Other guys in OP’s crew were in the same position and they all tried to find someone who could replace the two of them were successful but unluckily, the driller only had 3 guys who could work for him so the driller got mad, and declared that none of them could have their time off
5. When OP said you approved my time he replied it was canceled so OP told him fine he would work the 23rd but that would be his last day of work
6. OP got a new job that he could start the first week of January and at the end of his shift he emptied his locker and said goodbyes but the driller barely acknowledged it
7. Now this is where the twist comes OP was at a friend’s birthday party and he saw someone from his old crew he asked when he was going back to work because the driller thought OP was sulking around and he would come back OP said he better hire a replacement as he wasn’t joking with him when he said he is going to quit
