Scientists have discovered a new species called cat-fox.
After years of research, scientists have found a new species called cat-fox on the island of Corsica, France. It was known before but it was not identified scientifically. This new species known as “ghjattu-volpe” by the Corsican locals, looks exactly like our domestic cats but are longer in size. The newly discovered species measure 90cm (35in), has a russet stomach, larger ears, long canine teeth, dense silky fur, stripes on the front legs, and a tail with 2 to 4 rings that ends with a black tip. Scientists think their fur and the long tail make them look like foxes.
16 cat-foxes have been found in the northern area of the Mediterranean island of Corsica, France. Scientists captured and studied some of them. Researchers from National Hunting and Wildlife Office determined the genetic makeup of this feline from the traces of its fur but its exact identity is yet to be known. The thick coat of fur these cat foxes are blessed with, not only makes them look gorgeous but also provides them increased protection against fleas, ticks and lice.
1. This furry feline is longer than a domestic cat.

5. We have found you, finally!
After years of playing cat and mouse with these species, Pierre Bendetti, an Official from National Hunting and Wildlife Office, one day accidentally caught a cat-fox in a chicken coop. They examined it but it took them years to study the genetic makeup of this rare feline. In 2012, the researchers plotted an experiment where these species rubbed against a wooden stick and left the traces of their fur. Seems like cat-fox has given scientists a really hard time.
6. Too long!
7. Sharp, canine teeth.
8. Look at those eyes. One green, one brown!!
So many facts and mysteries remain unfolded about cat-fox. Scientists are still unknown of the reproductive patterns and the diet of this mysterious feline.
