Sometimes a limitation is beneficial.
It is more difficult to express emotions through your work when it is only in black and white, but this limitation can also serve as a springboard for many artists. Artists frequently use colour to convey emotion and depth in their work, but the absence of colour can present new challenges and opportunities for creative expression. The limitations of a black-and-white palette force artists to experiment with different techniques and styles in order to effectively communicate their emotions through art.
B. Rolling and Jorion created the following comics. They call themselves the jokester and the artist. While I’ve seen a lot of comics in my life, I have to say that the limited colour palette sets this one apart. Some may consider this style outdated, but I believe it can be very refreshing. The fact that they are single-panel comics means that no one has to spend a long time reading them. The black-and-white palette emphasises the humour and creativity in each comic strip.
The project is known as Quickies Comics, and you can see some of them by scrolling down.

Even though the comics are only in black and white, I wouldn’t call the approach minimalist because they usually use black and grey as negative space rather than white, which is certainly visually appealing. They have over 24.7k followers on Instagram, but I believe they deserve a lot more given the quality of their work.
The use of black and grey as negative space in comics certainly adds depth and dimension. Quickies Comics’ distinct style and clever humour make them a must-read for any comics fan.
