In every single domain of life, there will always exist bad managers. In today’s story, the bad person is an apartment manager who made the oddest demand on her ex-tenants.
Reddit user u/lentesta shared that he and his wife received a bill of $0.02 from his apartment management company, which honestly I believe could have been waived off. When OP went to pay the follow-up bill person, the apartment manager sitting there said they do not accept cash. Shocked and not knowing what to do now, OP asked her if the payment can be waived to which the couple again got met with the “no can’t do” attitude.
OP asked the manager if she will accept the check and she said that can happen. So OP, with extreme maliciousness wrote a check of $0.03 instead of $0.02. Right after giving the check, OP demanded a check back for the $0.01 that he made the extra payment off. This blew the whole management company away and they were left with no other option but to give the best possible apology, one could possibly expect from an apartment manager to OP and his wife.
It must not go unnoticed that the fruit of this malicious compliance was time taking so OP and his wife really deserve top-level respect for pulling this one off.

This is beyond beautiful. I love when companies get in trouble because of the pure creativity of the person they try to mess with. They should’ve just taken the 2 dang cents and be done with it there and then. But no, they will always “stick to the policy” even if it means having their brains pulled out.
Great job, OP. This really was one of the most unique malicious compliance stories I have ever read.

Surely the complex will remember never to do such a thing again. One thing that surprised me is the comments. So many people have experienced such a case where the company would post a mail to the client for an amount that is far below the postage charges. So dumb and absolutely hilarious.
