Although the whole discipline of financial forecasting is based on making assumptions, they are still made based on research and historical data. Making assumptions out of thin with no logic supporting them whatsoever is straight-up the dumbest thing to do. That is exactly what happened in today’s story. Reddit user u/greasyjam is an alc*holic who was trying her best to get sober. One day when she got invited to her father’s birthday party at a restaurant, she ordered herself a non-alc*holic drink. Her parents noticed this and it instantly made them think OP was hiding something. On their own, both parents assumed OP was pregnant and her father got extremely excited.
When OP cleared it to them that she was not pregnant, her father got really disappointed as he was eager to become a grandfather. OP’s mother later confronted her and wanted her to apologize to her father for tricking him into thinking she was pregnant.

1. Well if you did trick him then you are an AH…but there is a lot more we must know before deciding so let’s dive into the story.
2. OP went to celebrate her father’s birthday at a restaurant along with her whole family. Because she was trying to stay sober, she didn’t order an alc*holic drink.
3. Her mother was quick to notice this and questioned OP whether she was hiding something.
4. From her decision to not order an alc*holic drink, OP’s mother and father thought she was pregnant. Her father got really excited.
5. When OP told them she wasn’t pregnant, her father got really upset. The family began asking OP all sorts of questions as to why didn’t she drink alc*hol. Not being able to take it all, she decided to leave.
Okay, there is so much wrong happening here. Firstly, the assumption about pregnancy. Why would anyone ever get excited over an assumption they themself made, an assumption that is yet to be confirmed? When OP said she wasn’t pregnant, there was no reason for them to get upset. She didn’t lie to them or anything. They made the whole thing up and she just cleared it to them that what they were thinking was entirely wrong.

For tricking him? When did she trick him? He assumed OP was pregnant because she didn’t drink an alc*holic drink. A very broad assumption, if you ask me. OP only cleared a misunderstanding. If the parents think their daughter played a joke on them to hurt them, they need to reconsider their lives because they are terrible people.
7. OP is child-free, she has made the decision and is very firm on it. She says her parents would either have to make a new baby or adopt if they want to become grandparents.
