This Rare Golden Possum Looks Exactly Like Pikachu From Pokemon

We’ve all had this urge to meet Pikachu in real life.

I am just going to take this as a fact that we have all wanted to meet Pikachu at least once in our lives. If you are one of those who know, very well, how to use the internet and are familiar with the social media trend, I can pretty much guess that you’re part of the generation that has watched Pokemon. The amount of Pikachu pillows and stuffed toys that my parents got me for my birthday were immense, that too on my demand. And the reason was that I just wanted to feel how Ash felt having him by his side. It wasn’t easy to absorb the fact that Pikachu is a non-existing, fictional character but it seems like those hopes of a real-life Pikachu have just been revived again.

Told you guys! Meet our very own real-life Pikachu.

Via Boronia Veterinary Clinic and Hospital

This golden possum was introduced as a new addition to the family by the Boronia Veterinary Clinic and Animal Hospital, located in Australia, in November of 2018. It was clear that the possum wasn’t of the usual type, from the very beginning.

This unique-looking possum had a very smooth yellow fur compared to the grey-black scratchy fur that a normal possum has.

The world was quick to realize the high resemblance of the possum with the Pokemon given how its black-buttony eyes were exactly the same as well. And when you come under the shadow of the internet, you are bound to get lifted. The possum is now an internet sensation.

Dr. Stephen Reinisch of the Veterinary Clinic and Hospital told how the female possum became part of the family. She was actually found on the ground of the Clinic and the best guess is that it probably fell off of the back of her mother’s.

“She was a bit shy at first, as expected, given the strange situation she had found herself in, but was otherwise in good spirits and health.”

They made a public announcement about the Pikachu Possum which was very well received by the Internet.

The clinic is very clear on the fact that they will take full care of the possum until a family is found that will then give it to her forever home. Given how young the possum is, there could be dangerous consequences of sending her back into the wild at such an age. So far the time being, she needs to live with carers until she is ready to go out.

The reason why the possum has yellow fur is due to a rare genetic mutation. That yellow marsupial is actually a very rare variety of the common brushtail possum. Hence, the Pikachu!
