Guy Asks If They Are Wrong For Not Being Upfront About His GF’s Rent To His Roommate

OP shares a 2-bedroom apartment with his girlfriend Leah and their friend/roommate Ivan. They agreed to split the rent 35/35/30, with Leah and OP taking the larger bedroom due to her cat. Recently, Leah faced health problems and began an expensive treatment not fully covered by insurance. To ease her burden, OP quietly started covering her share of rent and utilities while she handled the phone bill and subscriptions. OP never informed Ivan, as it didn’t affect him directly. However, Ivan overheard Leah talking about her stress from this situation and confronted her while OP was out. When OP returned and found Leah upset, OP confronted Ivan for interfering in their affairs. He claimed he should have been informed about the change and criticized OP and Leah’s lack of honesty.

Ivan’s actions were immature and stupid.

I absolutely agree with this point of view.

The lease is not broken, that’s all that should matter. Ivan going to Leah was a stupid act anyways while OP is the right here.

If nothing has changed for him, why is he asking a big deal out of nothing?

The rent agreement is being fulfilled. Ivan is no one to get angry in the first place.
