If you ever want to see someone’s true colors, the easiest way to do it would be by giving them a bit of power and seeing how everything turns out. This may sound weird but this is actually a great tactic and shows you how that person will treat you if they were in a higher position than you. Most of the time, the results are not great and people can turn into complete monsters when they are given a taste of power.
So it is no surprise that HOA tends to attract these kinds of people. They get to have the power to fine homeowners and penalize them for stupid stuff while also remaining on their high horse. I am sure you have read many stories where the HOA has won and that is sadly true. But sometimes, a person will come along who will fight back and set the HOA in their place. This story is about one such person.

I have to preface this by saying that no one should use this as legal advice as every area has different laws.
This story is more about the revenge that these people took on HOA rather than the legality behind it all.
Most people don’t like HOA anyway and this helps me understand the reasoning quite clearly.
This particular HOA even had the gall to fine them for things that they require the homeowners to do as well.
It didn’t end there as the neighborhood kept getting stupid fines and everyone was reaching their limit.
So they decided to hire a specialized HOA lawyer to take them on.
As you can probably imagine, it didn’t go well for the HOA and they had to stand down.
All of them settled while making sure that they were getting their due.
I have never had to deal with the HOA because this does not exist in the area we live in. I mean there is something similar but the people in the upper management are usually very nice and do send you a few warnings before they will fine you so it is not a problem. However, it seems that in some countries HOA is a big deal and can do whatever they wanted, granted that no one fights back, and even then it is a 50/50 chance that they will win.
The poster also mentions that this would not have gone nearly so great if this had escalated.
So I am glad that the HOA changed its management and I can only hope that this doesn’t happen in the future.
