I know that is a very ineloquent way of putting it. But it summarises this whole story perfectly. You see, when you’re naming your kid, you have to think about what most people would call him. After all, many people will stick with a nickname and your kid might even like it more.
So this mother should have known that with someone whose name is Andrew would be called Andy a lot. However, apparently she hates the nickname. And rather than letting it go, she decided to have a meeting with his teacher so she could stop everyone.

No, you do not get to decide what people call him. He is his own person.
Honestly, at the end of the day, the kid is an individual. Sure she is his mother but she is being too controlling. It is never good to strip away your kid’s personality just so you can mold him into whatever you want. And it seems Reddit agrees.
