Mom Teaches Teen Daughter A Lesson By Leaving Her Alone In Hospital On Christmas

There are many ways to teach your children a lesson.

Have you ever gotten sick on the day of a festival? It is literally the worse. And if it’s on Christmas Day, you may consider yourself the unluckiest person on this planet. The fact that everyone is enjoying the nice feast and then opening all their presents while you sit in a room away from all because you have no energy to socialize and you don’t want to transfer the sickness. That is why, if you have ever noticed, as soon as we get in the festive spirit, we try to make sure as much as we can to stay at our healthiest and apply all preventive measures ever learned to ensure that.

In today’s story, we touch open this same topic. The Reddit user is a mother who shared this story on the sacred community of ‘Am I The A$$hole‘ to know if they did the right thing or not. OP shared in the story that she left her 16-year-old sick daughter all by herself in the hospital to teach her a lesson a specific lesson. And this all happened on Christmas Day. Yes, you read that right.

You may be wondering who does that to their daughter, it was Christmas, at least OP with her daughter in the hospital, etc., etc. The reason why OP was not at all sympathetic to her daughter is that she in her consciousness did something that she knew would get her ill. And in order for that to not happen again, OP had to teach her daughter a lesson in some way and this is the approach she took.

Now I can already tell a lot of thoughts are coming to your mind, hold them till you read the whole thing and then decide whose side you are on. After all, there was a reason OP shared this on the AITA subreddit as she too was a bit confused.

1. There is always that one food item that literally kills your stomach.

2. That’s the best they can do till they come up with a better solution.

3. I am glad that the mother has identified what foods are not suitable for her daughter’s stomach.

4. Unfortunately, like all kids, all the items on that list are the favorites of OP’s daughter and she refuses to give up on them even though she knows what consequences those food items bring.

5. Of course with age comes independence and authority so with time the mother can’t really do much about her daughter’s eating habits, she can only say “don’t eat those” and that’s pretty much it.

6. Poor girl.

7. It is not easy to avoid your favorite foods…that too on Christmas Eve.

8. According to OP, there was a choice that her daughter had and that was to eat the food that wouldn’t cause any problems to her stomach. And it was delicious too.

9. The daughter voluntarily chose to eat all the trigger foods on the table because it was Christmas. And it did the thing, she had to be admitted to the hospital.

10. This time OP decided she wouldn’t stay at the hospital with her daughter because eating those food items was her own decision and she had to be taught a proper lesson in order for that to not happen again.

11. The daughter got emotional because her mother wasn’t visiting her but the mother took a stand even though it was not easy.

Normally I decide on my vote pretty easily and have my reasoning ready but in this case, I am stuck in the middle so that

Both parties were wrong in this story, in their own ways. When the daughter knew the trigger foods would get her sick and it would be inevitable to stay at the hospital for a few days, why did she eat them? And there was other food available too that wouldn’t have caused this problem upon consumption. She had to be taught a lesson for sure so I don’t declare the mother the AH for that.

But, the method she chose to teach the lesson is what makes me consider the mother an AH. Okay fine, let’ say she doesn’t want to go to the hospital, at least she could’ve paid one visit just to calm her daughter down, check up on things a bit, etc.

So this is where I am. Both parties were wrong in their own ways.

Here’s what the AITA community members had to say and why:

12. Daughter got herself sick and that’s not right.

13. The girl was old enough to understand what were her trigger foods.

Via Hospitalthrowaway532

14. Actions will always have consequences and this girl could only be taught that through a solid lesson.

15. This wasn’t a one-time thing so the girl pretty much knew what that food would do to her. And doing that on Christmas indirectly ruined the event for her mother because after all the relationship is significant.

You would think everyone would declare OP NTA but there were some voters who said she was in the wrong and they had their reasons:

16. OP was wrong for not getting any mental health counseling for her daughter.

17. The girl is still her mother’s responsibility and abandoning her at the hospital was very irresponsible.

Via Hospitalthrowaway532

18. Mothers are always supposed to be with their daughters in such situations.

19. Not an unpopular opinion at all because it has been said previously as well. The daughter needs to see a psychiatrist.

Dog tax.

“This is toffee, I just adopted him from the shelter! I was sobbing while petting him through a small hole in his pen, was the only dog not barking, he’s underweight and shy, he’s made life so worth it.”
