Woman Refuses To Hide “Sensitive Books” When Sister-in-Law Visits, Calls Her SIL And Brother “Uneducated”

Assumptions can easily lead to misunderstandings.

Before making a decision or becoming angry about something, make sure you have all of the facts. I’m sure we’ve all dealt with people who believe they know everything and won’t even do a quick Google search before shoving their opinions down everyone’s throats. The truth is that some people simply want an excuse to cause trouble and will find any reason to be angry. Some people seem to thrive on causing chaos and conflict in their social circles, whether by starting rumours, spreading gossip, or inciting arguments.

These drama seekers may be motivated by a need for attention, a desire to feel powerful, or a lack of fulfilment in their own lives. The main culprit in the following story does not appear to be any different. You see, the original poster’s (OP) fiance is a historian whose primary area of study is German history. As you would expect, it includes the Holoc__t. I understand that this may make some people uncomfortable, but I believe it is critical for us as a species to be willing to confront our true history without attempting to deflect responsibility. However, the books he had caused some problems when OP’s brother came over to visit.

The title really doesn’t shine OP’s behaviour in a good light, but there is more to the story.

OP lives with her fiancé, and they live in a one-bedroom apartment, so it is a tight fit.

Her fiancé is a historian and mainly focuses on Germany’s history and all that it includes.

This obviously means that they have a few books talking about German history, which people might feel uncomfortable about.

OP has her brother and his girlfriend over, and the girlfriend in question wasn’t too happy the next morning for some reason.

A few days later, her brother confronted her about the books they kept at home, and this only confused OP.

OP’s brother demanded that she apologise to his girlfriend, and she was gobsmacked about the whole issue as everyone in the family knew what her fiance did as a job.

The OP was clear in her answer and called out his girlfriend for being dumb and not reading the whole title of the book.

OP’s mother isn’t on her side, while her father thinks the whole thing is hilarious.

We also got an update that clears up a few things that were left as question marks in the original story.

OP’s mother thinks she should have been kinder, as compromises are necessary in a family.

I understand why the OP’s mother would say she should have been kinder, but I don’t believe she said anything wrong. Sure, her choice of words may have come across as rude, but her brother’s girlfriend appears to be an individual who creates drama for the sake of it.

Because if she had just read the title, she would have realised that OP’s fiance isn’t reading books that glorify the past or anything similar. It is, after all, a critical view of history, which is primarily the responsibility of a historian.

It is normal to feel uncomfortable when even talking about something from that era.

However, it is important to talk about the past, and that is what historians do.

This would be the perfect apology.

According to the update, she isn’t Jewish.

It isn’t as if the books were racist or anything of the sort.

We’ve all had to deal with these kinds of people before.

Talking about things that might make us uncomfortable is necessary.

Ignoring something doesn’t make it go away.

Simple, but perfectly put.
