Disney princesses have already been reimagined a slew of times, so what’s the point of reinventing the wheel? Who doesn’t love watching their favorite characters in different looks – We do!! Anyways, reinventing the wheel doesn’t mean, that it is an easy task. Reinventing the illustrations is a daunting task though because it requires a lot of thinking, creativity, and effort to recreate something into a new context. While some artists may alter a character’s clothing or hairstyle, capturing the “feel” of a popular cartoon character in a new light can be a tough challenge.
Have you ever seen any of Tyron Handy’s artwork? If no, Gosh! you are missing something amazing. As a result of the work of artist Tyron Handy, people are calling for animated series like The Simpsons or Family Guy to be brought to life in real-time.
He told: “Most recreations that I see are just people putting designer clothes and jewelry onto the characters and changing their skin color. My recreations really look like they could be parallel versions of the characters,”
Tyron once said: “There weren’t a lot of cartoons that I felt represented me much growing up — most black cartoon characters and tv shows were stereotypical, slightly racial discriminating side characters and the best friend of the white main character. Black kids need to be able to see more representations of themselves in media.”
Tyron’s weekly comic strip has a side project of these cartoon reimagining’s. “Apple Dapple Tactics” is a story centered around a Coca-Cola systems engineer named Ty and his complicated relationships. It’s worth a look!
