A recent story shared on the social media platform Reddit has sparked a debate on the topic of the balancing of professional responsibilities and the importance of compassion in modern-day parenthood. OP, who is as a technology specialist at her company, usually works remote. But she was faced with a pretty big challenge when Mike, her co-parent and the other technology specialist, got into a car crash. Basically OP ended up having to juggle her daughter, the company, and Mike’s work while he recovered from his injuries. One day, she was directed to the office to retrieve a project Mike was working on and a portable server, requiring her to take her daughter along, which proved a challenging undertaking as she was unsettled and upset the entire ride there.

While OP was in her office after reaching, the echoes of her child’s screams bounced off the walls. It seemed that the little one was set on retrieving her toy dinosaur from the car. OP was mortified by the noise, but none more so than a certain staff member, who deemed it impossible to focus on their work due to the noise. In response, the staff member demanded that OP “shut the child up,” prompting a angry response from OP that subsequently resulted in the staff member’s contract being terminated for insubordination and sexist remarks. #4) OP’s daughter forgets one of her belongings in the car and freaks out while OP meets a co-worker and gathers her things.

The online Reddit community deems OP, NTA (Not the as*h*le), and felt little sympathy for the fired staff, which is understandable given his lack of discretion in the matter specifically considering that it involved one of the owners of the company. Even so, commenters admit that most people wouldn’t be pleased to hear a child screaming in their ears while working, yet everyone recognizes the importance of handling such situations with more care. In this case, the staff member let their temper get the better of them and crossed the line with their sexist remarks.
