Boss Tells Employee To Not Come To Work If They Are Late, Regret It

suddenly-not-showing-up-to-work.

Work released next week’s schedule. Problem: OP is on it. OP gave more than two weeks’ notice, quitting the job on January 25th with the last day set for February 11th. Some co-worker friends know OP is taking a break to focus on physical and mental health before finding a new job. Strangely, OP’s boss heard about this and assumed OP would still work. The boss couldn’t find a replacement in two weeks, so she wants OP to stay because OP is “not busy.” In response to the request to be removed from the schedule, the boss called OP selfish and inconsiderate in an email to everyone. It seems like it’s the other way around.

Honestly, OP could work next week, but a few weeks are needed to address personal health issues and life matters that piled up because of this job’s demanding 12-hour shifts, five days a week. OP’s role was initially part-time, and it wasn’t supposed to exceed 40 hours, let alone 60. This time is needed to schedule doctor’s appointments, plan surgeries, address dental and mental health needs, and manage various personal responsibilities that were neglected for the two years OP had this job. Leaving a job on bad terms isn’t the intention, but frustration is building.
