The coworker got offended, complained to the boss, and the OP got written up. OP wonders if they are in the wrong for following their boss’s instructions. It is clear that OP’s coworker’s reaction was unreasonable, and it’s not OP’s fault that she got offended. OP was adhering to the rules set by her boss, and there’s no reason for you to be written up for doing so.
In this situation, following your boss’s instructions is crucial, as they are in a higher position and have authority over such matters. OP’s actions were in line with her job’s requirements, so she is not the AH in this scenario.
