Even parents must draw the line at some point.
I know that everyone wants parents who will always be there for them and love their children without expecting anything in return. However, this is not always the case, and you will discover that even parents expect things from their children for all of the time they have spent caring for them. However, it is not always the parents who are in the hot seat either. There are times when a parent must cut off their child or issue an ultimatum. It is usually not because the child did not meet their expectations, but because the child continues to expect a lot from them while failing to show them some much-appreciated respect. That is essentially what is happening in this story.
It is, however, far more complicated than it appears. We’ve all heard that stepfamilies can be difficult for children. Divorce is difficult enough, but when you add in new stepparents, many children will distance themselves from you. It’s not your fault; it’s just that they’re in pain. However, even such behaviour has its limits, and as one grows older, one realises that not all relationships work out, so you must give your stepfamily a fair chance. However, the daughter in this story clearly disagrees with this statement, and this is where the father and daughter disagree.

Honestly, the title makes him sound like a horrible father.
That is why to understand his motivations we need some context.
It is clear from the get-go that his ex-wife didn’t help the situation.
He has tried to continue a healthy relationship with his daughter.

However, that hasn’t worked out for him yet.
He has even tried therapy but his daughter refuses to work with him.
That is why he decided to not pay for his daughter’s tuition.
This has his daughter and his ex quite annoyed but he is done with it all.

To be honest, I believe the girl has it tough, especially with a mother who constantly fills her with hatred. However, this is no excuse for how she treats her stepfamily. Now, I believe that the OP has no right to impose his family on her, but that doesn’t mean she shouldn’t be courteous to them. Her behaviour is childish and inappropriate for a person her age. While I would have said that it is also the father’s fault for giving her the ultimatum, I believe he has done everything he can with therapy and everything else. So this was clearly the only way he could continue a relationship with his daughter.
People in the comments were quite understanding of the situation as well.
I agree that he needs to work this out with his ex beforehand.
Some people believed that he was fully in the wrong for waiting this long.

To be fair, we don’t know the whole story.
I will say that this situation isn’t as black and white as it seems.
And I do think that this ex is the one to blame for this situation.
After all, she is the one who filled their daughter with hate.
But a lot of commenters couldn’t see that.
