“The children liked him very much.”, said the class teacher Özlem Pınar Ivaşcu who instantly fell in love with Tombi at first sight.

Tombi had a soft spot for the kids, truly. He loved to roam around the classroom, turning it into his cozy abode. But here’s the twist – a hiccup arose.

The school administration started worrying about Tombi posing a health risk.

The school administration believed he needed to find a new, more suitable place to call home.

Özlem said, “We found a house for Tombi and he stayed there for three days, but he was not happy. He stopped eating. So, I took him home, but here too he was not happy. ”

The kids were really sad too.

Tombi had turned the classroom into a peaceful space, and he had even helped some students who were having a tough time concentrating. To let him know they missed him, the children sent Tombi letters and pictures.

“When he first joined our class, I noticed a change in the children’s behavior. They were more careful and stopped running around in the classroom. They couldn’t wait to come back to school the next morning (which is remarkable for some 9-year-old children), Özlem further added.

Özlem said, “The children were very happy to have Tombi back… And he is happy again to be with the kids.”

Özlem took it upon herself to bring Tombi back to school. She shared Tombi’s story on social media, and soon a local news station got wind of it. With all the buzz, the school administration had a change of heart and agreed to let Tombi return to the classroom where he truly belonged.
