Always adopt, never shop.
I am well aware that this statement is being hammered into our heads wherever we go on the Internet, but there is a reason for that. While we may be able to get the ‘perfect’ animal in terms of breed, fur color, eye color, and age if we were to buy one, it is always better to adopt one that desperately needs a home. Because if we keep buying animals, there will be demand for them, and then it becomes an endless loop.
So the only way to decrease the number of animals getting euthanized or animals roaming around on the streets is to either rescue one or adopt one from the shelter. Not only does this free up space at the shelter so they can help more animals, but it also gives you a lifelong companion who will always be thankful to you. Adopting a pet is a big decision, and just because you want to help a shelter in need doesn’t mean you should buy a pet. There are many ways you can help your local shelter, like volunteering or offering your services for free if you are a vet. You can also become a foster care for pets if you are not ready for a permanent commitment. Because it is not right to get a pet and then get bored of them, they do not deserve this sort of treatment.
