Woman Mistakenly Brings Wild Bobcat Home Thinking It’s A Lost Cat, Hilarity Ensues

Things are often different than what they appear…

Sometimes, while acting quick, we end up making the wrong decisions. It doesn’t matter if the intention is good, but if the judgement is askew it can definitely cause a lot of problems. Just like how it happened with this one particular woman from Richmond, VA, USA.

This woman saw a cat stuck in the fence outside her house “screaming it’s head off.” She quickly went out and rescued her. Upon realizing that the cat was too chonky to be a stray one, she brought it inside. However, Little did she know, it was actually a Wild Bobcat!

Bobcats (Lynx Rufus) are North American wildcats. They are about twice the size of normal domestic cats and are extremely aggressive. These are natural-born predators who feed on rabbits, rodents, and other small animals. They are noctural—most active during the night—which is why they are rarely spotted during daytime.

After she brought him inside, the cat went absolutely crazy! That’s when she knew she couldn’t keep him any longer. So, to find his rightful owners, she posted an ad on Craigslist along with these photos.

Here’s what she wrote:

FOUND cat last night was stuck in between my fence screaming its head off. I brought it inside because it looks too big and healthy for a stray and dogs here escape often and will eat cats that get out.

It is very thick and has little stripes and spots on its legs and big white round spots on the back of its ears, only thing that looks wrong with him is he doesn’t have a tail, but it doesn’t seem like anything new.

She continued:

He is very vocal (and mean!!!) I think he is a tabby and bengals mix, maybe some Maine Coon because he is just so big and chubby. I took most of these pics last night so the lighting makes him look brown, but he is actually more grey. He was very hungry. Please, if you’re his owner contact me ASAP. I can not keep him here because as cute as he is, he is CRAZY and has gotten into everything in the house in one night and is EXTREMELY AGRESSIVE.

Soon after she posted the ad, her inbox flooded with responses from people telling her that she accidentally brought a wildcat home.

After realizing what she had done, she immediately let the cat go!

Here’s what she wrote:

Thank you to everyone who told me this is actually a wild bobcat!!! Wtf!! No wonder he was so grumpy!! I kidnapped him.

I am not from America and have never heard of a bobcat, I thought all wildcats are much bigger than that!! I can not believe I brought it inside! And he p***** all over my damn house so now I have to deep clean everything!!

Anyway, I am glad at least he is okay and not a lost cat. I have let him go already back near the trees where he came from. I am also okay, no bites or scratches.

Though it came as a bit of a shock that she let a wildcat into her house, we’re glad that she’s okay!

Bobcats don’t usually harm humans, however, they can if they have rabbies. Bobcats are often confused with another wildcat named Caracal. That’s because they have the same tufted ears. However, a prominent difference between the two are their tails. Bobcats have very short tails. In fact, Bobcats are named after their tails which are only a few inches in length unlike the regular cats.
