Nobody likes people who push their beliefs on others.
Don’t get me wrong, I honestly do believe that vegetarians and vegans are doing the Earth a favour and being conscious about our footprint. However, that doesn’t give anyone the right to force other people to convert to their ways even if they think they are in the ‘right’. And even if you think tricking someone into eating fake bacon is harmless and a ‘clever’ way for people to realize that they don’t need to eat meat, it still is very wrong.
I have been on the other side of this argument when I was a vegetarian and was tricked into eating meat and it is simply not okay. And it takes on a whole new sinister feel when allergies come into play. One thing you may not realize is that most meat alternatives have soy in them which some people are severely allergic to. So you can probably see where this story is going. I won’t spoil anything further.
Just scroll below to read this experience and how a roommate ended up with a felony charge.
Source: Reddit
It all started when this person needed a new roommate.
And she found one who was a vegetarian.
To show her appreciation the new roommate cooked them breakfast.
And she realizes something is wrong the moment she took the first bite.
The roommate clearly doesn’t realize what is happening and goes on her spiel.
But the poster of this story ends up in a hospital.
And since they were in the US, the Hospital was more than what she could pay.
So the only way to pay her bill was to sue the roommate.
But all of this clearly hit the roommates life quite hard.
And she is still picking up the pieces.
People have a lot of conflicting comments. Some think the poster is in the wrong, others think that the roommate got what she deserved while there are also a few who think no one is blameless. I personally would fall into the latter category. I mean the poster should have told her about her allergies especially since it can be quite dangerous. And the roommate should have never tricked them either. But that girl didn’t deserve to have her whole life ruined because of something like this.
I mean it would have been a fine punishment for her to pay the bill but a felony charge? That is too much.
People in the comments were quite split with the result.
‘Split’ was putting it mildly, actually.
Some thought that the poster wasn’t in the wrong at all.
And said that the poster did her due diligence and asked what was in the food.
And that the roommate was in the wrong for tricking the poster.
While others thought the poster took it too far.
And that it was her responsibility to be careful when she has allergies.
She was clearly the one in the wrong according to many comments.
There are also a few people who thought everyone was in the wrong somehow.
We could even say that US healthcare is the a**hole here.
