Favouritism is never a desirable trait.

When it comes to siblings, this is unfortunately quite common. Although I am aware that many parents have “favourite” children, this does not justify treating others differently. Whatever your thoughts are, it is necessary to treat everyone on an equal footing so that no one feels left out. Why do you believe there are so many middle children always feeling neglected?

But to understand the reasoning behind that, we need to read about the entire situation.

It is clear that she loves her father and really wanted to go with him to Rome.

She was quite excited about the trip until she realized he was going to go without her.

She was ofcourse hurt as it is about the principal and not the trip itself.

She is understandably p*ssed off and doesn’t know whether she can forgive him.

The father on the other hand isn’t ready to admit that he messed up.

This has led her to think whether she is somehow guilty as well.

I do not believe the daughter is incorrect in any way. If I were in her shoes, I would feel similarly betrayed. It would have been understandable if her father and his girlfriend had chosen to go elsewhere. Taking her to Rome when OP had wanted to go with her father for so long is simply cruel. And I don’t understand why it’s so difficult for him to recognise that this is not acceptable. He is obviously favouring his girlfriend and her family while ignoring his own daughter. Why didn’t he ask her beforehand if they could join them if he really wanted to take them? Did he really think it was the best idea to exclude her from everything?
