Employee Refuses Insulting Counter-Offer From His Current Manager

It is sometimes too little, too late.

This is something that many executives overlook. They will only try to retain a hardworking employee when everyone else has given up. Isn’t it usually better to ensure that all of your critical employees are satisfied with their jobs so that you don’t end up in a precarious situation? However, it is clear that many superiors’ heads are too far up with their butts to recognise this simple fact. Respect does not come easily, and it is especially important in the workplace. When an employee realises that they are not being treated equally, it is natural for them to begin looking for better job opportunities elsewhere.

I am sure we have all read countless stories about employees taking on many responsibilities that are not directly under their purview in the hopes of being noticed and not only commended but also promoted. While compliments are nice and all, do they really pay the bills? So it’s not surprising that when the superior in this story offered a ‘promotion’ of some sort, the poster of this story was less than pleased. If the manager had just a smidgeon of foresight, this would not have happened, but he didn’t, and things turned out this way. Keeping employees in this day and age is becoming increasingly difficult because no one wants to work for someone who does not give them what they deserve, and I believe this change is definitely for the better.

I’m actually relieved that the counteroffer came so late. Because OP would have been stuck in this job for much longer if it hadn’t. And, based on the number of people who have left, it appears that the company did not have a great work environment. It’s always satisfying to see companies like these go out of business. After all, keeping your workforce happy is a critical consideration to remember. Higher-ups must stop viewing their employees as mere tools and recognise that they are an asset that must be nurtured if the company is to be successful.

A very difficult question indeed.

I wish that is how it worked but it doesn’t.

The superior clearly didn’t care about any of this.
