Neighbor Refuse To Remove Plants Even Though They Nearly Ended Their Neighbour’s Cat’s Life

Many plants can be harmful to animals.

Many pet owners may be unaware that certain common household plants can be harmful or even fatal to their beloved animals. Knowing which plants are toxic to pets and keeping them out of reach can help prevent accidental poisoning. Pet owners must educate themselves on plant safety in order to ensure their pets’ health and well-being.

For example, we have lily plants. Lily plants are popular ornamental flowers that can brighten up any home or garden, so it’s no surprise that many people grow them in their homes. However, many cat owners may be unaware that these seemingly harmless plants can be highly toxic to their feline companions. Ingesting any part of the lily plant, even in small amounts, can cause severe kidney damage and even death in cats. Now, I am not saying that you cannot have lily plants if you have a cat, but you must exercise extreme caution. You should not behave like the neighbour in the following story.

OP has a few cats and also absolutely adores the lily plants.

There will be mention of cats getting hurt, so those who are not okay with reading about that should click away right now.

OP has three cats, and they love all of them, which is why they try not to bring lilies home.

OP has always loved lilies, and their mother sends them the sentimental plant sometimes as well.

OP takes extreme caution when it comes to where they have the lily plants, and they never let the cats near them.

OP also has lilies in their garden, seeing as they have indoor cats, but they warned the neighbours about this as well.

The neighbours were thankful that OP had told them, as some of them didn’t even know that lilies were toxic to cats.

One day OP came home and found a cat near their lily plants, which obviously worried OP, and they took the kitty to the vet instantly.

OP’s neighbour wasn’t too happy with this development and screamed at OP for allowing the cat to eat the plants.

Rather than accepting responsibility, the neighbour was quick to blame OP, even though it wasn’t OP’s fault.

The story did not end there as the neighbour sent OP a letter asking them to pay the vet fees.

This is why OP ended up on Reddit, asking people whether they were in the wrong for having lily plants in their garden.

Thankfully, the cat is healthy and nothing happened to him, so at least we don’t have to worry about that.

Honestly, I feel bad for the cat, but it’s not the OP’s fault. It wasn’t as if OP hadn’t warned her neighbours, and I’m not sure how the neighbours had the audacity to ask OP to pay for the vet fees. I’m not saying that letting your cat outside is a bad thing, but it is your responsibility if you let your cat out alone.

There are numerous plants that are harmful to pets, and it is not practical for anyone to warn their neighbours about everything. So all I can say is that I’m glad the cat is fine.

It is better to keep your cat indoors.

After all, you never know what can happen outside.

It would be better to not escalate the situation.

The OP did warn everyone about the lily plants.

So OP is not responsible for the kitty getting hurt.

There are many things that can hurt a cat when it is outside.

This is why I keep my cat indoors and only let him outside when I am with him.
