Childless weddings are becoming the new normal.
Child-free weddings are becoming increasingly popular as couples prefer a more adult-oriented atmosphere on their special day. Many people choose to exclude children from their weddings to avoid any potential disruptions or distractions during the ceremony and reception. This trend reflects a shift in priorities among modern couples who want a more sophisticated and elegant wedding experience. While many people adore children, we must acknowledge that not every child will always behave appropriately.
Nobody wants to deal with question marks on their wedding day. Furthermore, couples can create a more relaxed and refined environment for their guests by removing children from the equation. This allows for a more seamless and enjoyable celebration without having to worry about children’s needs or behaviour interfering with the event. Even if you allow children at your wedding, you don’t have to invite them all. Especially not a child who once ruined someone else’s wedding because they were envious of the flower girl.
You’ll understand what I’m talking about after reading the full story below.

While OP isn’t having a child-free wedding, he has opted not to invite a specific child.
OP and his fiance decided on a big family wedding where the kids are invited as well, so everyone can have a grand old time.
However, there is one exception to the rule, and that is OP’s cousin’s daughter named Carrie, as she has ruined a wedding in the past.
When Linda saw that her kid wasn’t invited, she called OP up to talk smack about child-free weddings.
However, she clearly didn’t realise that it wasn’t a child-free wedding, and OP just didn’t want Carrie there.

Linda clearly wasn’t happy after listening to the reasoning and has since colluded with other family members to bombard OP and his friends with texts.
OP also added an update where they explained that they can’t rescind the invitation for his cousin as his family wouldn’t like that.
The OP is now on Reddit, asking for help, as he thinks he may be in the wrong for excluding a child who threw a tantrum at a wedding over two years ago.
While I agree that it is impolite to exclude a specific child, I do not believe the original poster (OP) is in error. After all, the child was 10 years old at the time, so she was more than old enough to recognise that what she was doing was wrong. Now, I’m not going to blame the child for her behaviour because it is clearly the parents’ fault.
However, whoever’s fault it is, I believe the OP is completely justified in not inviting the kid. If it were me, I would not invite the entire family, but based on the update, this may not be possible for the OP.
People in the comments were fully on the OP’s side.

Carries was 10 years old, so she must have had an idea of what she was doing.
To be fair, it all depends on her behaviour these days.
This would be the perfect response, in my opinion.
I don’t even feel bad for Linda or her daughter.
I am pretty sure that Linda will try to ruin the wedding.
Or Linda might just bring Carrie to the wedding anyway.

A wedding is the OP’s and his fiance’s special day, not anyone else’s.
Linda doesn’t seem like a reasonable person.
It isn’t fair, and Linda should stay at home with her daughter.
Sending pictures of the catastrophe to the people who are siding with OP might be the perfect idea.
Uninviting Linda would be the safest choice in this scenario.

What are your thoughts on how OP dealt with the situation? Do you think the OP should concede and invite the child to maintain peace within the family? Or do you think she is correct to exclude the entitled child? What would you do in her position? Leave a comment below and let us know. Also, don’t forget to share this story with your friends so they can add their thoughts as well.
