Friends Berate Woman Wearing A Floral Dress When The Hen Party Was An All-Black Event

Events have a dress code for a reason.

Everyone understands what a black-tie or casual Friday is. And when we’re told what to wear, we usually stick to the rules. After all, you wouldn’t wear jeans to a wedding, would you? Unless specifically requested, However, there are some unspoken ground rules that everyone adheres to. As in, never upstage the bridge or wear a white gown to a wedding. I’m not saying that everyone does, but it’s at least what we’re supposed to do. However, many people simply do not get the memo and show up in a wedding gown at someone else’s wedding. It’s usually the mother-in-law, mind you, but I digress.

Surprisingly, today’s story isn’t about a mother-in-law who wanted to be the centre of attention. It’s about a woman who decides to dress up for a hen party in a floral dress. I have to admit that I had no idea what a hen party was before this, but it appears to be an all-woman party before the wedding, and it sounds quite fun. The main drama is that the dress code for the party was all black, but the poster of this story wore a floral dress with a black base. As you might expect, many of the other guests were not pleased with her. That is how she ended up on Reddit, asking others if what she did was so wrong.

We can’t really tell much from the title.

Wearing a floral dress doesn’t sound bad in and of itself but that is why we need context.

Apparently, everyone was supposed to wear all-black outfits but she chose to ignore the dress code.

The others were clearly not happy with her decision.

However, OP doesn’t understand what the big deal is at all.

I can see why there was such a commotion. After all, the bride hadn’t asked her to wear a specific expensive gown or anything of the sort. And I’m sure everyone has a black outfit in their closet. Even if you don’t, buying one isn’t that expensive, so she had no reason to wear a floral dress. Everyone else was dressed in all-black because that was the dress code.

They made it clear that they wanted the bride to stand out, which wasn’t going to happen if everyone else was wearing colours. So I’m surprised she’s even in this subreddit asking for advice because I’m sure she messed up. We’ll never know if it was intentional because she craved attention or if it was a mistake.

People in the comments however are not on her side at all.

A lot of Redditors laid it out clearly why she was in the wrong.

It wasn’t as if she was supposed to follow some ridiculous instructions.

I have to agree that she intentionally ignored the rules.

I wonder why she did this at all.

I would not be surprised if OP did this in the future.

I personally don’t think it was that ridiculous.

Or maybe I have been ruined by reading a myriad of Bridezilla stories.

Exactly! A black outfit is easy to put together.

It really is as simple as that.
