Boss Gets Revenge On Employees For Stealing Food From Office By Punishing All Employees

Revenge on Employees

In today’s AITA story, we witness a dilemma that challenges even the kindest of hearts. A Reddit user, also a business owner, used to generously supply coffee, snacks, and chips for their staff. However, they soon discovered that the provisions were being rapidly depleted before each month’s end. Despite requesting moderation, the staff’s behavior persisted. Consequently, the OP decided to implement changes within the business. This included removing personal tools from the mechanics’ workshops and discontinuing complimentary chips, water bottles, cable, and lower-quality coffee.

OP emphasized fair pay for all employees, stating that most have been with the company for years with low turnover. This Midwest-based business owner remained puzzled by the ongoing issue.

1. Let’s see how this one went.

2. OP, who was once a professional mechanic himself, now owns a store dealing in the same with mechanics working under him.

3. OP visits the shop on a random basis to help the employees. He also provides free coffee and chips to everyone.

4. One time in the second last week of the month, OP noticed all the stock of chips was gone. All 400 bags of them.

5. OP called in a meeting to ask the employees how many bags had they all been taking and everyone said 2 to 3. This didn’t make any sense.

6. The same thing happened the next month which made OP think. He had to come up with a solution.

7. OP didn’t provide chips for a week and the next week when he brought some, he also shared new changes that he was bringing to policies at work.

8. He basically took away all the incentives that were previously motivating his employees to work at their full potential.

This is unfair. OP is trying his best to sound like he did the right thing but I am of the opposite thought. What if only one or two guys stole the majority of the chips? In that case, everyone got flattened by the same truck. The new rules are for everyone, for those as well who did nothing wrong. So I don’t think this was a great decision after all. This will demotivate the employees and they will definitely lower their productivity now.

9. He also imposed a rule that the mechanics would have to bring their own tools.

10. OP didn’t feel this was much of an issue money-wise and that the employees would be able to comfortably cater to themselves.

11. He also is of the thought that everyone is being paid fairly and they don’t need any extra incentives for performance boosts.

12. OP concluded with his version of “Courtesy is contagious”.
