Manager Berates Employee For Being Late By His Watch’s Standards, Regrets It

Late Employee

Managers love to have control over everyone.

Managers frequently believe that they have complete control over their employees’ lives, making decisions that have a significant impact on their careers and financial security. This power dynamic can lead to workplace tension and resentment, as employees may feel powerless and vulnerable to their managers’ decisions. To foster a positive and productive work environment, managers and employees must recognise and respect each other’s roles and contributions. That is how a healthy workplace should be, but there are few instances in which the work environment is not toxic.

This is why it’s always satisfying to see managers get their comeuppance. Whether it’s because an employee exacted revenge on a manager or because the upper management realised they had no control over their employees. The latter case is always the most interesting because it demonstrates that employees can effect positive change in their workplace by advocating for themselves and their contributions. It serves as a reminder that mutual respect and recognition are critical for a productive and harmonious workplace. But most of the time, higher-ups despise anyone they cannot control.

Retail employees find it difficult, but it is also a job that many university students choose.

The OP apparently came 10 minutes late, but only because the manager wanted the OP to follow his watch, which was 10 minutes behind.

Rather than arguing about it, OP accepted him on his word while he made a plan for when the shift would end.

10 minutes before closing time, OP closed his till and told the manager to check his watch.

As you can probably guess, the manager was quite angry but couldn’t really do anything, and from then on, he never asked anyone to follow the time on his watch.

I believe that malicious compliance is sometimes a hundred times better than straight-up revenge. After all, with malicious compliance, you are technically doing what you were told to do, so you are not violating any rules.

It is very easy to go too far with revenge and lose your job, so malicious compliance is sometimes the only option that many employees have, and it is always very satisfying to see stories like these where managers don’t have a retort and have to admit that they have no power over that specific employee.

It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it sure is satisfying.

It’s fine if you arrive early, but it’s not okay if you leave early as well.

I wonder how his face looked at that moment.

Your personal watch has no bearing on what time the rest of the world follows.

The manager started it after all.

I am sure that was the only reason he had changed his watch time.

The boss couldn’t really say that OP had broken any rules.

Watching the world burn is sometimes very satisfying.

I hope OP’s time at the university is better.

I am sure he definitely would have gotten overtime pay.

Some people just get drunk on power.

That would have been really funny.
