Manager Imposed A Charge On Personal Prints From Office Printers, It Backfires

Personal Printing

The policy you impose on your workers should be imposed on you as well. A leader achieves his/her milestones by becoming the example they want to see set. If there is a rule regarding coming to work at a specific time, the manager should be there early to welcome the employees so they feel motivated to come even before the manager to impress him/her. But in a terrible organization filled with bad bosses and managers, the exact opposite happens. The rules are only for those who are far down in the reporting line and they do not apply to the top management. This is not how things should go. Everyone should be held accountable for not following the rules.

One Reddit user made sure the rule being imposed on him and his coworkers was also applied to the management of the organization. The manager of the company OP used to work for once made a rule that did not allow any worker to use the office printers to take out personal prints. There was a charge specified for both back and white, and colored prints. The manager had collected quite a nice sum from the workers until one day she got caught by OP himself using the office printer for personal use. Things turned around for the manager very quickly from that point.

Scroll down below to read how it all went down!

1. Rules are rules…for everyone.

2. OP once worked in an organization that he appreciate for its business conduct but the manager there had way too many rules set in place for all employees to follow.

3. One rule was that no one was allowed to use office printers for personal prints and there was a charge imposed if anyone did so.

4. I am sure the manager made it herself without informing higher authorities because no one at the top cares about such things.

5. This is new for me.

6. One day OP was interviewing for a position in the same company but at a different location and the manager from that location asked OP to print their resume from where he was and bring it along.

7. OP considered it a work-related print, and it was, and decided to go ahead.

8. OP hit the print button and got up to get the document as the printer was sitting a couple of desks away from him.

9. But as the manager had also sent a print to that printer, she got their first and got her hands on OP’s print. She insisted this wasn’t a work-related print and asked him to pay for it.

10. OP paid the amount due which apparently was going to go into the annual Christmas party fund.

11. Some weeks later, everyone decided to go out for lunch except the manager. As OP got out of the building, he realized he had forgotten his wallet at the desk so he ran back inside to get it.

12. As OP reached his desk he noticed the printer was printing pages upon pages. It was a well-wish for the manager’s daughter’s 16th birthday.

Now this is beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous. A petty revenge that wasn’t even set up by OP. It’s like nature put the manager in her place by making OP forget his wallet at the desk which results in the manager being caught using the office printer for personal prints. This will amount to a good sum if she really did print 100 copies from that printer.

And that is why folks, you should never let your entitlement come in the way because it makes you set up terrible rules that eventually make you fall into the very pit you dug up for others.

Having said all this, the best part is yet to come. Scroll down below to continue reading.

13. The command had been sent by the manager. OP happily handed the copies to his manager once they were done and was happy that the Christmas party was all of a sudden going to get so much better because of the money she would have to pay for the personal prints.

14. A couple of weeks later the district manager paid his quarterly visit at the organization and touch upon the topic of the Christmas party.

15. I knew it, the manager made this printing rule up all by herself. The district manager was confused when OP asked about the funds accumulated for the party.

16. OP then proceeded to tell the district manager about the printing rule set by his manager.

17. The very next manager abolished the printing rule but didn’t let it end there. He responded to the email keeping everyone in check asking what would happen to the accumulated funds.

18. Someone suggested the sum was sufficient for a nice pizza lunch.

19. The manager ended up having to spend $300 to get pizzas for everyone, some of it out of her own pocket too.

Here’s what the internet had to say about this:

20. Worth every buck.

21. Nature showed OP a direction and he capitalized on it so well.

22. She was basically stealing money, so out of order.

23. You never know what other frauds she may have committed. An audit needs to be conducted.
