Control is essential in parenting.
However, this does not imply that any parent should monitor everything their children do. Because doing so will not result in your child becoming more honest, but rather in them becoming better at hiding things from you. It is preferable to cultivate a relationship with your children in which they are not afraid to come to you when they make a mistake. However, many parents never even try this and instead resort to being overly strict and snapping when their child asks them to close the door.
It’s as if parents believe that they own their children. I understand that you gave birth to another person, but you must also recognise that they are individuals, and while it is your responsibility to care for them and teach them all the life lessons they will need in the future, forcing anything on someone never works. And just because you think you turned out okay despite the fact that your parents never gave you any privacy does not mean you actually did. After all, you’re still perpetuating the never-ending cycle of children despising their parents and cutting off contact the moment they reach adulthood.
However, everyone has different opinions on this, and Anthony C, a semi-popular TikTok user, had something to say about it as well. You can see for yourself by scrolling down.
This is the man in question.
And this is the tweet that started it all.
While Anthony is active on a variety of social media platforms, his primary one is TikTok, where he posts podcast-style shorts on a variety of topics. Many people find many of his points of view to be controversial, but he is free to express himself. And he does the same thing on Twitter. That is also happening in the preceding tweet. I can understand why he feels this way. After all, many people believe that the only way to keep their children safe is to keep them under constant surveillance. And, while I am all for keeping an eye on your child’s internet usage, especially because there are many creepy people out there, there has to be a balance.
People in the comments had a lot to add as well.
While some agreed with his methods, most people touted the benefits of allowing your kids some sort of privacy.
This person has it right. This sort of thing happens a lot more than you think.
We don’t know if he does have control issues but this tweet isn’t painting him in a very flattering light.
What are your thoughts on the subject? Do you agree with Anthony that children should have no privacy until they leave home? Or do you believe that privacy is required to teach them responsibility? Let us know what you think in the comments section below. Don’t forget to share this article with your friends so they too can share their own experiences.
