Adopting a pet is a profoundly rewarding experience, bestowing therapeutic companionship and unconditional love upon the adopter. Yet, like any significant life choice, it’s not always a straightforward journey. Enthusiasm for a cute, furry friend should be balanced with careful consideration of the pet’s energy levels, temperament, and needs in harmony with the owner’s lifestyle and living conditions.

In a recent case, a Redditor approached the adoption process thoughtfully, communicating their lifestyle and preferences to the rescue shelter. However, it seems there might be a mismatch. Despite initial beliefs of a perfect match, the reality unfolded differently. The adopted dog struggled to adjust to OP’s compact home with no usable yard. Despite dedicated efforts, the dog’s high energy clashed with the confined space, resulting in indoor chaos and training challenges.

1. Mismatches will always occur in life. Accepting and embracing them will never make you an AH.

2. OP wanted to adopt a dog for a very long time and when he finally did, the newly bonded friends just couldn’t connect.

3. The compactness of OP’s house and no yard doesn’t allow the dog to utilize the high level of energy coursing through its veins.

4. The small made training the dog a major challenge.

5. OP realized early on that the dog wasn’t a fit for him.

6. So before doing the needful, OP asked the internet if he would be an AH for giving his adoption back to the shelter.

7. So it was all a bit of what I wanted vs what I got, a mismatch that was never going to turn into a match because this was not what OP wanted.

8. The rescue said it was a lab mix but the vet OP took him to said that was highly unlikely so he has applied for a DNA test to know the truth.

9. OP has found another match, as suggested by the rescue. Hopefully this time things will work out.

A very clear NTA! OP would have been AH had he become stubborn and made the dog forcefully live with him. It would have made life h*ll for both the dog and OP. Poor guy wouldn’t have any place to let all his energy out and that can be very dangerous health-wise. OP, on the other hand, because never got what he wanted, would have had a terrible time trying to control/train the dog. Some mismatches can never become matches, no matter how hard you try.

The decision okay took was sober and correct.
