Imagine helping your friend out by offering them space in a rental apartment at a discounted rate, a friend of over 20 years, and having them suddenly turn on you by wanting you to leave because now they like to live alone. Reddit user Ok-Designer-7319 was faced with this crazy dilemma as she offered her best friend a space in her apartment at a discounted rate during a time of need as OP too was helped by him during her tough days. That is what best friends do for each other.
However, when OP started dating again and spending more time with her boyfriend, a change was observed in the best friend who came out to OP saying he now prefers living alone. OP respected his choice and expected he would move out. But there was a twist. The best friend didn’t want to move out and engaged in efforts to force OP out of the apartment. You read that right.

1. Hard to believe such a long friendship took a hit because of some roommate drama.
2. OP, who has two kids, asked her childhood friend to move in with her in an apartment.
You would think there is nothing better than sharing an apartment with your childhood best friend…well, think again.
3. OP offered a discounted rent to her friend given the tough times he was going through. OP helped because her friend had also helped her like this in the past.
4. After taking a hit, recently OP started dating again…another childhood friend of hers.
5. During the same time OP began working two jobs which also meant less attention to the kids.
6. However, OP did find a nice method of working things around to make sure her kids were safe, happy, and healthy.
7. Because OP would spend more and more time with her boyfriend, recently her best friend said he likes living alone.
8. And for that he wanted OP to move out. OP said no.
9. The two had the same conversation a few weeks later and no common ground was found again.
10. This time the best friend said no because he believed the deal being offered by OP was only in her best interest.
Let me get this straight. The best friend of over 20 years now wants to live alone. That is fine, we all like to invite changes in our lives that we feel favor us better. And to the best of my knowledge, OP didn’t say no at any point. She simply said if her best friend wants to live alone, he can move out and start living alone. Simple, right? But no, he wants to live in the same apartment and wants OP to move out. This is beyond me.
For some reason, I want to declare this a childish drama. This is nothing more than that. Let’s see what happens next. Scroll down below to continue reading!

11. That is one too many changes for the new year coming up.
12. OP felt horrible for the way this situation turned out.
13. So it is clear the best friend wants OP out at all costs. This is so out of the blue. He must have a rock-solid for all that he is doing.

Here are some of the comments shared on the story:
14. He wants OP to leave the apartment but maintain the discount. In what phase of life is this bond between OP and her “friend” referred to as “friendship”?
15. This whole scenario is so manipulative because, to me, it came out of nowhere.

16. This strategy is beyond me.
17. There isn’t much option left with OP.

18. Friends make sacrifices when required. You can’t force a friend to make a sacrifice. That is so unfair.

19. I am glad OP married her boyfriend but I must say, the best friend came out a winner in this scenario. OP got kicked out and things are still fine with the best friend as it seems.
