Redditor Refuses To Bring In His Roommate’s Delivered Packages Inside The House From The Porch

Bring packages in

Roommates are called roommates for a reason. It is not only about sharing the space so the rent decreases, it is about collaborating to live in a space, form a cordial bond, and be there for each other when needed. Roommates should support each other. When one asks the other for a favor, the other shouldn’t back off or get hesitant to accept it, they should go ahead with full confidence. Because the day they would need a favor, their roommate would then have to be there for you.

In today’s story, we see something opposite of what I just mentioned. Reddit user u/Lobster-Witness7492 shared that because his roommate works from home and he doesn’t, whenever his packages arrive at the house, he requests his roommate to move them inside from the porch. But OP’s roommate never does it. OP believes this is common courtesy and the minimal he could’ve asked his roommate to do for him. His roommate said OP was being too demanding to raise his expectations about him doing something for OP.

1. Well I don’t think you be an a$$ for asking your roommate for such kind of a favor. Let’s see why OP had to summon the AITA community for this.

2. OP is a government contractor who works at a physical workplace and his roommate does a job that allows him to work from home.

3. Whenever OP would receive a package and he would not be at home, he would simply ask her for a small favor from his roommate to collect it for him.

4. But the roommate won’t do it 99% of the time.

3 packages a month…that isn’t too much to ask, to be honest.

5. OP also doesn’t ask him to get them in as soon as they arrive. He has given him flexibility that he can move the packages inside in his own time…but please move them in.

6. Whenever the roommate orders something and it arrives, he quickly goes to get it but doesn’t do that for OP’s packages.

7. OP’s roommate complained to him for being too demanding. OP shared he just feared no one would steal his stuff from the porch and wanted it to be secured as soon as possible.

What is that for an ask? Please move my stuff in when it arrives at the door because I fear someone will steal it. This is a genuine request and who else better than to ask your own roommate? The way OP’s roommate is behaving is outrageous. OP didn’t bind him to anything, just made a simple request. And it is not like he was ordering fridges or TVs day in and day out. I don’t think OP was asking too much from his roommate.

8. OP does try to get the packages delayed or redirected to his office but he cannot do that every time.

This shows OP is making efforts to keep the load on his roommate as minimal as possible. Well, I wouldn’t call the task a “load” at all but that is what the roommate thinks it is.

9. OP thinks it is common courtesy and his roommate shouldn’t call him demanding to request him to bring in his packages.

Here’s what the AITA community had to say about this:

10. He agreed to do it. Not doing it then is just a di*k move by the roommate.

14. If he doesn’t want to do it, he shouldn’t have lied about agreeing to do it in the first place.
