Man Asks If He Was Wrong For Bringing His Dog To The Gym

Taking Dog To Gym

We know lying to anyone is a bad habit. No one encourages it and it deteriorates your image as a person because liars generate negative vibes. But who gave you this piece of information? Your parents and your teachers, right? You didn’t suddenly find a piece of text one-day saying “lying is bad” and you started following it, your parents and your teachers during your upbringing process taught you it is not okay to lie. Sometimes they don’t say it directly either, they teach you through examples and ways of life that help you understand it is not okay to lie and why isn’t it? What I am trying to say is you do not need every single thing written as a policy to follow it or believe it. Sometimes the dynamics of society, your upbringing, and the general viewpoints are enough to help you distinguish between right and wrong.

I say this because Reddit user GymAITADogThrow1 got himself a puppy named Iron. According to him, his puppy has separation anxiety which makes it really difficult for Iron to stay away from OP. OP is an active gymgoer so he decided it would be a good idea to take Iron with him to the gym. Now he did some studying and didn’t find any written policy that was against bringing dogs to the gym. But does that mean is it okay for anyone to bring their dog to a private, closed space with a lot of strangers in it? That’s what OP asked the infamous subreddit “Am I The A$$hole?” after one day Iron got away from OP and interrupted a stranger while he was doing his workout.

Scroll down below to read how it all went down!

1. We’ll have to find out what happened that day to decide.

2. OP’s recently adopted puppy, Iron, has some separation anxiety issues so he decided to take Iron with him to the gym.

3. OP searched if there are any policies against bringing dogs to the gym he goes to, but he didn’t find any.

4. So OP took Iron to the gym. No one seemed to point out why the dog was at the gym, in fact, OP got positive feedback for bringing Iron.

5. Because of the new environment Iron would go up to strangers but OP would quickly put him on the leash…after this would happen…to keep the puppy near him.

6. OP would bring Iron to the gym every day and he would feel really special having his puppy around him while he would do what he loves doing the most.

7. Many gymgoers even told OP they would get happy when Iron would show up. So it was all going perfectly.

8. However one day while OP was working out, Iron got away from him and interrupted a stranger doing gym which made him really angry.

This! What just happened is what I was worried about. OP you are definitely the a$$hole here. Imagine if the dog had moved aggressively toward the stranger. They don’t take much time to attack. Things could’ve gone terribly for OP. He should consider himself extremely lucky here.

It is not okay for you to do something just because the policy doesn’t say anything about it. You have to make some evaluations of your own. What if a gymgoer at the gym is allergic to dogs? What if one is terribly scared of dogs? What if the dog attacks a stranger and bites off their limb? As a sane person, you yourself have to understand these things. Because there is no policy on it doesn’t mean it is okay to do it.

OP, YTA!

9. OP quickly took control of his puppy and apologized to the stranger. Till then another stranger gymgoer came up and angrily told OP to keep his freaking dog at home

10. OP told the guy to find a new gym if he has a problem with Iron because the majority doesn’t. The guy simply said what he did before and walked away.

11. OP shared the story with his friends. Some called him an AH for taking Iron to the gym while others supposed him. So the matter was taken to the sacred community members of AITA.

Here’s what the AITA community members had to say about this:

12. Some things should be understood without writing or saying.

13. I was surprised to read that his dog was not on the leash. He mentioned he puts Iron on a leash after he sees his puppy walk up to strangers. That is not a good policy.

14. In this case, yes you are right.

15. So to be on the safe side for everyone, it is better to just not bring your dog to the gym. You could endanger other people’s lives.
