Moms Asks If She’s Wrong For Asking Her Daughter To Contribute In House Expenses

What is the age at which a child stops being a kid? If they live with their parents, should they contribute to the family budget once they start working? Many parents wonder if it is ever appropriate to charge their adolescents rent. As a matter of fact, there is no single solution that can fit all needs. There is some debate about it. In general, there are some general principles, but each family’s situation is unique, and parents must determine what is best for them. The UK’s largest parenting network, Mumsnet, recently shared an interesting post. Icanflyhigh shared the story.

It was when her 16-year-old daughter started an apprenticeship and earned £14.5K (about $20K) a year. It wasn’t much she asked for, either. There is only a weekly fee of £50 (about $70). However, when she asked her daughter to contribute to the family budget, her daughter quickly became enraged. When the whole thing escalated into a massive brawl, Icanflyhigh began to feel like the worst mother in the world for proposing this idea. It is very confusing for her.

In response, she posted her story online and asked other parents if she was being unfair. Keep on scrolling down to find out how it all unfolded and we will see you at the end of the article.
