So many of us have argued against stealing saying “Had you asked, I would have simply given it to you.”. The same dynamic was observed in today’s story shared by Reddit user u/veggieevengeance. OP shared that she had been living in a shared house with a single mom and her son. The issue highlighted was that whenever OP would return home from work, all her leftover food in the fridge would be gone. She assumed it was the single mom’s son doing it so she politely asked her to stop her son. But it started happening very frequently since then and that really annoyed OP.
OP did some digging and found out they would eat everything except for any vegetables that OP would put in her meals. So she decided to start adding vegetables to everything she would make and it worked, the stealing stopped.
The single mom got really annoyed and finally spoke up after seeing vegetables in OP’s food every single day. OP confronted her by saying she would’ve given the food to her had she simply asked.

1. Food thieves, man. They are growing.
2. OP lives in a shared house with a single mom who has a 6-year-old son.
3. Everyone does their own thing so OP doesn’t have much of a problem living with them.
4. One issue living with the single mom and her son was that OP’s food leftovers would go missing from the fridge very frequently.
5. OP assumed her kid ate her food so she asked his mom to stop him.
6. OP was fine about it at first but then got annoyed because it happened so often.
7. After conducting some investigation, OP realized they would never eat the greens from her food if there were any in it. The thief would eat everything except for the vegetables.
8. So OP started to put vegetables in everything she would cook to see if the thieving would stop or not.
9. No matter what the meal would be that OP made, she would incorporate veggies in it.
That’s the way of doing it. A very creative way to stop the thieving, if you think about it. OP has to be commended for this. I swear if the woman had asked, OP would’ve agreed to share whatever was left…or even given it all to her and planned a meal for herself in advance. But these were sudden stealing and OP would have to surface something on the spot which is much more difficult.

10. OP actually loves vegetables so this was a win-win situation for her. Not so much of a win for her rental partners though.
11. One time OP made a pot of mac and cheese while the single mom was watching. As soon as she grabbed some Brussels Sprouts to add into the meal, she spoke up.
The criminal just revealed her identity.
12. The single mom complained OP would ruin everything she made by putting vegetables in it.
13. OP shared she wouldn’t have minded any of this had she asked to put a share in the meals.
14. Had she asked, OP would’ve always said yes but the fact that they stole it from behind her back is what annoyed her.
15. When you see the leftovers aren’t enough for even the person who cooked that food to fill their tummy, no one should touch that.
