Girlfriend Asks Reddit Whether She Was Wrong To Choose Her Cat Over Her Boyfriend.

You just cannot tell a pet owner how to treat their pet.

The relationship between a pet animal and its owner is so divine and wholesome. When that inseparable bond forms, no power in this world can break it except the owner themself, the pet will never break the commitment. And no, this does not happen overnight. To form that bond, it takes a lot of patience, and a lot of failures as that trust slowly builds in the heart of the pet and it finally decides to open the cats for the human. The rest is history. The two spend life like they were always meant to be together and everything that had happened in the past becomes irrelevant. By everything, I mean negative things, that have put you down. Because your pet filled all those voids with happiness, love, care, joy, and entertainment.

Now just keep this description that I have just told you on the bond between a pet and its owner. Imagine someone comes in and tells you to stop treating your pet the way you do because they don’t like it. How would you react? Well, in today’s story, a woman turned to Reddit and asked the same question.

She posted how her boyfriend didn’t like the way she spent time with her cat. He basically declared their relationship is something very unhygienic and wanted her to stay away from her cat. Mind you, when she adopted her cat, she was only three months old and had been abandoned by her ex-owner. She obviously chose her cat over the boyfriend and has now asked the Reddit community if she was wrong to do so.

Time to get that Sherlock coat on once again and decide whether the woman as the AH or NTA.

1. I swear every story is so diverse from the others, on the AITA subreddit.

2. It’s always nice to see a relationship progressing.

3. Something very normal. A pet that could mean a world to someone may mean nothing to another. OP’s attachment to Crumb can clearly be seen as she helped give him a new life. But what’s the boyfriend’s stance on this.

4. So Kyle has lowkey been rejected by Crumb. This is interesting. Maybe he is new to pets so he couldn’t really manage to connect the way people, who are comfortable with pets, do.

5. Kyle complained about Crumb being super disguising. I mean yeah, to an outsider that stuff might seem a bit ew. But not too much to the owner.

6. I see a little conflict building up.

7. I think Kyle does not understand how strong the factors of affection, love, and care are in the bond between pet and its owner.

8. It is a habit. You can’t really do much to change habits because they will never.

9. I can see where this is going. It is a simple case of a pet owner human and a non-pet owner human. The two’s feelings about that cat are going to be very different.

10. I think Kyle is making a very big scene out of something that is not of significance.

11. In a crate? Okay, this is too much. He is very inconsiderate of his girlfriend’s feelings.

12. A pet owner whose pets get disrespected right before them, is going to get very mad.

13. As I said, the non-pet owners and pet owners were always going to have different opinions on the situation. Pet owners will not support what Kyle said.

14. I understand where their viewpoint is coming from, but they are thinking from a cat owner’s perspective.

15. The relationship that was progressing so quickly is now balancing on a thin line. What caused it? A pet? Or the boyfriend being inconsiderate?

I as I mentioned, this AITA is not as simple as it seems. There are two schools of thought here, basically. One comes from the pet owners who understand how pets behave, how the cat is going to behave when it has been made the ruler of the house. They would obviously want OP to choose the cat because Kyle making demands like not kissing his girlfriend until the cat is locked in a crate or kept outside are outrageous. No pet owner likes to hear words like that about their pet. They want the animal to live the best possible life, without any strings. The second school of thought comes from the non-pet owners. Although they understand a thing or two about pets but haven’t experienced living with one, as its owner. The dynamics are very different and I don’t think they truly understand the feelings of OP in this one. So they will obviously vote for Kyle and would want her to choose Kyle over Crumb.

I think Kyle wasn’t wrong about the toothbrush thing. That is something very unhygienic and could cause health issues for OP so that matter should be dealt with. But everything else, the way OP has declared Crumb the ruler of the house, how she kisses him before he sleeps, how he sleeps right next to them, in the same room. That’s just him not liking how she treats her cat. And I think this is where Kyle becomes the AH. He is in no power to decide how Crumb should spend his life and try to limit it.

My final verdict is that OP was NTA.

Here’s the verdict of the internet:

16. Other than the toothbrush matter, everything else was just Kyle disliking the cat.

17. Concise and to the point.

18. The votes were flowing in the favor of the pet owner.

19. He can’t be declared an AH for raising concerns but he is certainly to be declared an AH for making demands that would limit the freedom of the cat. No, not happening!

20. Everyone’s opinion is to be respected. But keep the matters till opinion.
