Daughter Gets Accused Of Ruining Her Mother’s Funeral By Not Sharing Her Inheritance

Ruining moms funeral

Reddit user u/throwaway081723‘s had many husbands throughout the course of her life. When she passed away, in her will she had a certain amount for all of them. For one ex-husband, Jason’s daughter Jenna, OP left her bed, a one-bath apartment, and a college fund for Jenna to complete her education. For OP, though, who was her biological daughter OP left almost all of her money amounting to more than one million dollars.

Jenna did not like that their mother left so much for OP and nothing, according to her, for her. At the mom’s funeral, Jenna’s father approached OP and requested that she split her inheritance in half with Jenna. OP refused to split which made Jenna’s father called a rude and selfish decision. He also accused OP of ruining her mother’s funeral.

The matter made OP share the story on the subreddit “Am I The A$$hole?” to know if not splitting her inheritance with her half-sister made her wrong or not.

1. Inheritance can bring complexity in relationships and I think that is exactly what happened in this family’s case.

2. OP’s mother passed away in a car accident with whom she hadn’t yet created a good relationship as she and her father divorced only 2 years after marriage.

3. OP’s dad then married Kaylee who pretty much looked after her all throughout her childhood. OP’s father passed away when she was 16, and after his passing, she started living with her actual mom.

4. OP’s mom and her third husband had a daughter, Jenna. She also shared that the divorce between her mom and Jason was a terrible one.

5. Okay, yes. That is actually very messy.

6. She turned down her own daughter’s full-ride scholarship to an Ivy League. That is harsh, man.

7. When OP heard about her mom’s passing, her fourth husband wanted to have the funeral delayed until the will was read.

8. Everyone gathered and the will was read…

9. Jenna, OP’s half-sister, got funds for college, one bed, and a one-bath apartment. To OP, however, she gave over a million dollars.

Stacy left over a million dollars for her biological daughter. And for Jenna, who came from Jason with whom she had a really messy divorce, OP left her enough money to complete her education and also a one-bath apartment so she could sustain herself. I don’t see anything wrong here. I mean, it is Stacy’s will and OP shouldn’t be held accountable for it. I say this because everyone is going to blame OP for getting the most money. OP had no say in this. It was Stacy’s decision entirely and it must be respected.

10. Jenna got really angry and didn’t talk to OP. When the two did talk, it was at the funeral and when she got asked what was wrong, Jenna blew up.

11. Jenna’s father approached OP and asked her to split her inheritance in half with her sister.

Jenna’s father made a request to OP and then proceeded to berate her. How is he expecting her to say “okay” after this?

12. OP honestly felt she didn’t deserve the whole money so she asked the AITA community did she really ruined her mom’s relationship by inheriting the money her mother gave to her.

Leaving this, I only have one question. Why did she leave OP over a million dollars but declined her full-ride Ivy League scholarship?

Here’s what the internet had to say about this:

13. Say OP decides to split the money, that decision would be against her mom’s “will”. She won’t like it up there.

14. Where did “deserve” come in all this? It was OP’s mother’s money and she divided it as per her will.

15. Greedy and entitled, that is what Jenna was being.

16. Add a layer of protection and use the money for the betterment of your own life.
