Managers like this are only harming themselves and their companies by making such decisions, and once they are confirmed that the employee who is useful to them is leaving they get anxious trying to make them stay but it’s too late for that. That’s exactly what happened here they got what they deserved and OP got the better job with the better pay he deserved.
