Step relations are extremely complex. I really don’t know why but most of the time they just don’t work. One of the two either just doesn’t want the things to happen or it’s both of them not showing any will to enter a relationship of love. I think the stereotype that has been created around step relations has sort of converted into an enchantment. The spell has been cast over the entire universe and now no step relation ever works.
Today’s story also revolves around a step relationship. Reddit user u/Miserablelife05 shared she had a good relationship with her stepmother until she moved into the house. Since then she has been controlling OP’s life. She set up rules that restrict OP to live her life to her fullest. This annoyed OP a lot. She also started looking for a boyfriend for OP so she could start dating and get a touch of the real world.
Stuck, OP didn’t know what to do so she turned to the internet for advice.

2. OP liked her stepmother until she moved in, that is when she started controlling OP’s life.
3. These are just terrible rules.
4. OP’s dad agreed with the rules and they got officially set.
5. It wasn’t only OP who she controlled, she had full control over her husband’s decisions as well.
6. She has no regard for privacy either. She would walk into OP’s room while she would be changing clothes.
7. Despite OP having a boyfriend, the stepmother tried her best to patch her up with one of her younger coworkers.
8. She forced OP to go on a date with that guy. OP had no idea what to do so she turned to the internet for advice.

11. This person said OP’s stepmom had no rights to her decisions. The stepmom’s behavior is BS.
OP is stuck. The rules set by her are nothing but pure BS. How can she control a girl she is not related to? And why is she trying to control OP? The stepmom just needs to mind her own business. The advice OP got is perfect and I think she should follow it. Contacting her aunt is the way to go forward. The environment created for OP is not liveable. A move has to be made.

About 3 days later OP shared an update. Here’s what she had to say:
12. OP followed the internet’s advice and contacted her aunt. She allowed OP to stay with her.
13. As her aunt told her to tell her father first, OP discussed the plan with her dad. She shared everything with him about the control his wife had over her.
14. In an apologetic way, OP’s father promised her he would talk to her stepmom about this.
15. The rules changed but didn’t get entirely removed.
16. The policy of her walking in the room without permission and her not being able to buy what she wanted changed.
17. However some of the rules remained where they were.
18. The stepmom also agreed her wanting OP to dad a guy in his 20s was wrong but she would still find guys for her…of the same age….but the search would be conducted by the stepmom.
19. She ended up registering OP on a dating app and had her connect with a guy she will be meeting soon. Remember, OP already has a boyfriend.
