Father Asks If He’s Wrong For Getting Mad At His Wife For Not Packing Nappies For Their Child

Today’s Reddit AITA (Am I The As*h*le?) story revolves around a new dad. Being caught unprepared for a day with a baby or toddler is a big recipe for disaster. Then, when a kid gets hungry and there are no snacks at hand, temper tantrums are sure to follow. A change of clothes is essential as well. If your child isn’t potty-trained yet, not remembering to pack a diaper bag with extra diapers can be your K.O blow. Kids in their early years are absolutely notorious for their frequent crying and pooping episodes, which often happen at the same time.

So, when a new dad overlooked his daughter’s diaper bag, nobody could take the blame but himself. Although he did try to point his fingers at his wife, Reddit set the record straight immediately. OP (Original Poster) basically was tasked to prepare for a day out with his two-year-old daughter while the mom was away. He readied snacks, juice boxes, and books but discovered his daughter’s diaper bag was empty when they left the house. They went to a pub for lunch and OP read a story to his daughter, who immediately pooped. OP now had a genuine problem as he promised his daughter a fun-filled day at the park, and an upset toddler in a soiled diaper simply isn’t how he imagined it was going to go. #1) Ooh, this is gonna be an interesting one.

#2) OP’s wife was at work and he was given the responsibility of their kid. He gets ready, grabs the nappy bag and goes out. The baby poos.

#3) There were no nappies in the bag and OP’s daughter wanted to go to the park. OP, after a moment of panicking, found neonatal nappies in the changing room.

#4) OP’s wife gets annoyed at him and calls him an ass*h*le while OP thinks it’s the opposite because it was apparently her duty to replenish the supply after finishing it.

While several Reddit users commented to point out the unfair mental load on the wife in this story, the main issue is the father’s failure to accept responsibility for his simple mistake. It wouldn’t have become such a big deal if he had just admitted that it was his own negligence was the problem instead of trying to pin the blame on his wife who wasn’t even home at the time. As a parent, OP will undoubtedly make plenty of mistakes in the future as well, and accepting responsibility for them is a valuable lesson to learn early on.
