Fiancé’s Family Gifted Son’s Girlfriend Coal, She Left Furious And Lashed Out At Her Boyfriend

Reddit user u/Virtual_Ad_3893 shared that she was really excited to spend her first Christmas with future in-laws. She was nervous too, but didn’t let the nervousness take over as she began hunting for the best gifts she could find for all the family members.

OP mentioned she wasn’t expecting much in return because many of her fiance’s relatives didn’t know her much well. However, there was some form of expectation in OP’s heart and mind that got absolutely trashed when it was time to finally open the gifts. OP noticed there was a huge pile of gifts for her which made her even more excited till the ball finally dropped. All 18 of the gifts that had been given to OP were nothing but pieces of coal. Yes, you read that right.

OP got really upset and started crying. Her fiance tried to calm her down by telling her this was a family tradition and that everyone in the family found it really fun. OP, disappointed, told him she made a huge mistake by skipping Christmas with her own family just for some coal.

I don’t care about this tradition. OP got hurt. She had some expectations. She did so much to get nice gifts for them all but they got her coal? What were they expecting? For her to BBQ some chicken on it?

I think if they really wanted to pursue their longstanding tradition with OP, they should’ve at least gotten some nice gifts as well. The whole purpose of a gift is to give whatever you think would be nice, out of your heart. Such a foul tradition. And they were all laughing like they did something hilarious. All they did was embarrass that girl. And they must not expect anything good from OP in the future because she now knows they won’t value it.
