Landlord Asks If He Is Wrong For Wanting To Evict A Family And Their One Year Old Child

Kindness is not always rewarded.

While we have always been taught that being kind to others is its own reward and that you should never expect anything in return for doing a good deed. However, treating the person who has assisted you as a decent human being is at the very least expected. But all too often, we see good people being taken advantage of, and they are powerless to intervene because they don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. However, there are times when you must stand up for yourself and refuse when the other party appears to be treating you like dirt.

That is exactly what is happening to OP in this particular story. He and his wife, you see, share a home with two other roommates and their one-year-old child. He has always done his best to assist them, allowing them to use his car, cleaning the house after them, and even waiting for them to save up enough money to pay him the rent. He did all of this for the one-year-old, who is innocent in all of this and does not deserve to be homeless simply because his parents are difficult to deal with.

It sounds bad but there is a good reason for it.

We start off with getting some context on why this is happening now.

He has let his roommates run rampant all because of the kid.

He has tried to help them as much as he can.

He even let them use his car without asking for money.

However, they don’t seem to be responding to him in kind.

Instead, they are making a mess of things and taking advantage of him.

They apparently want to leave without giving him his money back.

So he asked Reddit as to what he should do.

He seems to think that he may be in the wrong if he evicts them.

I’m honestly surprised he hung in there for so long. And, while we don’t know both sides of the story, it’s clear that they’re taking advantage of his generosity and believe he’ll let them get away with anything. But everyone has a limit, and it appears that his has been reached. At the very least, I hope so, because they don’t deserve any of his kindness. While I feel sorry for the child who will face consequences for something his parents did, he is not OP’s responsibility.

However, people in the comments were quick to point out that they are just taking advantage of his kindness.

The best thing to do would be to evict them as soon as possible.

It is their responsibility, not his.

I would never be able to be this patient with rude people.
