Supervisor Tells IT Guy To Go Get His Name Badge As He Cannot Work Without It, He Doesn’t Comeback

Rules carry a massive significance. Rules are put in place for many reasons like setting up some boundaries to operate within, ensuring the safety of the public, avoiding misuse of the law, maintaining order, and generally for people to know what to do and how to do it. However, because rules are robust, there is no way around them it often puts you in a situation that you may feel is inhumane or obstructs you from working in the most efficient way, in such cases breaking the rule or considering them non-existent might not hurt.

Unfortunately, there aren’t many people out there who understand this phenomenon and only operate by the rules right to the last dot. They feel like bending the rules or working around them is like breaking god’s trust and failing at life. No matter what the consequences may be, they will always follow the book.

Today we have a story for you by Reddit user sawser who shared his experience he had with his manager and could’ve saved time for everyone had they turned a blind eye to a simple rule. Working by the book ended up creating a lot of mess for the manager which she had to deal with all by herself.

1. OP had been working at a university IT department for quite some time.

2. Looks like the media center head is not a nice person given the kind of name she got awarded by OP.

3. Karen basically is one of those people who only work by the book.

4. One day OP got called by Karen to fix an issue regarding a laptop.

5. Just as OP asked to see the laptop upon reaching the media center, Karen stopped him in his tracks and asked where his name badge is…

6. And the name badge was chilling back in the ITS office.

7. OP thought it won’t be much problem…she knows who he is so I don’t think a badge is going to enhance any of his skills to fix the laptop.

8. But according to Karen, rules are rules.

9. Surely she understands…right?

10. Nope…Karens don’t have brain cells to understand situations.

11. OP went back to his office and gave Karen a call. Surely he has something brewing in his mind.

12. OP just pulled a massive sneaky on Karen by telling her he cannot work after 5 because that’s what the policy says.

13. The policy is to follow the policy..as the “wise Karen said”

14. OP shared some updates after reading the comments.

15. OP’s own boss didn’t like Karen either.

16. You don’t see many bosses like that in 2023.

17. The boss asked OP about the situation that took place between them.

18. I really like this boss.

19. She had to deal with her own mess.

20. Here’s the problem Karen had called OP to fix.

21. It had something to do with the laptop taking a lot of time to connect to the network.

22. OP fixed it within seconds on Monday morning when Karen was not in her office.

23. Here’s the rationale OP provided for why he didn’t have his name badge on him when he reached Karen’s office.

24. You have to bend as per the situation to deal with it in the most efficient way, and Karen didn’t get that.

25. That means it was her problem.

26. OP was going to fix the laptop there and then so there wasn’t really a need for him to wear a name badge. Again, policies shouldn’t be so robust, they should be mended as per the situation.

27. This one woman probably did learn a lesson that day. I hope she did.
