Mother Wants Her Child To Take Care Of Her Disabled Siblings When She Grows Up

Not everyone is fit to have children.

I know it has been instilled in all of us that the ultimate goal of everyone is to get married, have children, and live in a house with a white picket fence, but that is not the only thing that life has to offer. Having children, especially nowadays, is not as important as it once was. I understand that humans are social creatures and that we are ‘meant’ to reproduce, but everyone’s life purpose can change over time. Not only that, but the simple fact is that not everyone is adequately prepared to care for a child. Just because you want children does not mean you will be a good parent. For example, some people want children solely because they believe they will be able to live vicariously through their children, which is not the case.

Not only that but when considering having children, you have to take into account the possibility that they might be born with health problems. And if you think you won’t be able to handle it, you should think twice before proceeding. However, because they are so focused on having the “perfect family,” many people don’t even consider this. That is the attitude of the coworker in this story. She not only doesn’t care that her next child is likely to be disabled, but she also believes her daughter will be able to care for all her children when she grows up. I believe that is known as parentification and is a form of emotional ab*se.

This sounds bad but it gets worse.

OP and her co-workers have a good relationship.

Except Stacy who is busy a lot of the time.

It was just another pregnancy announcement when things got heated.

Stacy brought in the health problems her other children are facing.

And OP wasn’t able to keep quiet when parentification was thrown out.

However, this led to an argument with Stacy.

But now the atmosphere at work is bad.

And thus she asked Reddit whether she did the right thing.

While I understand that interfering in another person’s affair is not anyone’s business, I also wouldn’t be able to remain silent in this situation. If I saw someone treating their children in this manner, I would also speak up. This woman’s attitude is truly repugnant. While she may not have done anything wrong up to this point, the fact that she plans to put all of her responsibilities on her daughter’s shoulders when she grows up indicates that she is not fit to have children in the first place. I can only hope that her partner is a better parent.

Unsurprisingly, everyone was in support of her speaking out.

I am pretty sure Stacy wasn’t truthful about the situation either.

That’s not even mentioning her attitude about other things.

It is a very complicated subject.

It truly is awful.

I hope her daughter stays safe.
